Colony Beach – Kennebunkport, Maine

The Colony Hotel at Colony BeachOn our first full day in Maine, we explored the area and found ourselves at Colony Beach in Kennebunkport, Maine. Being Monday, July 5, the area was crowded with tourists and people with the day off from work. We found a parking spot along the road just across from The Colony Hotel, which holds 125 guest rooms located in five separate buildings.

The beach lay between the rocky shore and the jetty. Even though it was a busy day, the beach was somewhat secluded and quiet. We found parking along the road and walked across the beach to the jetty, where we took our fair share of pictures.

Beautiful Colony Beach

Walking toward the jetty, we saw that it was the entry point for ships docking in Kennebunk River. This was something new for a family from the Midwest, so we paused to take some pictures.

Photo Opportunities:

Never to miss a great photo opportunity, we walked out on the jetty to take pictures of the ocean, ships, rocks, and whatever else we could find.

Watching the lobster-tour boat was cool to see as people prepared for an adventure on the sea. Little did we know that we would be heading out on a whale-watching boat a couple of days later. One thing we did know was that we would be spending the next day on the other side at Gooch’s Beach.

Our time at Colony Beach was short, but we enjoyed every moment. The peacefulness of the beach was the perfect start to our time away in Maine. I couldn’t even resist one last shot of my wife with The Colony Hotel in the background.
