It’s the cool of the morning for what is going to be a hot day. I watered the plants before sitting down to do my devotions. I think this is going to have to become part of my morning routine this summer so the plants get what they need before the sun takes over.
When I think about it, my morning devotion time is like watering the plants before the heat of the day. I’m getting the nourishment I need to help me through whatever the day brings. Jeremiah says, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit” (17:7-8).
If I’m to bear the fruit of the spirit, I need to water my soul every morning to get the nourishment I need to get me through the day. And then I also need those weekly and midweek times in the word with my fellow believers to help me grow as well. It’s all a delicate balance to maintain but one of upmost importance when it comes to my spiritual walk.
