“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,
and He delights in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
(Psalm 37:23-24. NKJV)
The Lord understands that we stumble and fall. He knows we carry a sinful nature that keeps us from being perfect in this life, yet because of Christ, we are made righteous in His sight. And in His grace, He makes our steps firm when we delight in Him.
When we stumble, He keeps us upright with His hand.
How awesome is that?
The Lord does not look at us with shock when we fall. He steadies us. He upholds us. All because we delight in Him.
But what does it mean to delight in the Lord?
It means finding your deepest joy, satisfaction, and pleasure in God Himself, not just in what He gives, but in who He is. It’s choosing Him as your greatest treasure. It’s allowing your heart to be shaped by His character until your desires begin to align with His will.
And when that alignment happens, something beautiful follows. He fulfills those godly longings. Not always in the way we expect, and not always on our timeline, but in ways that bring lasting contentment and peace, even in the middle of life’s trials.
God wants us to make Him our ultimate happiness. To trust Him completely. To treasure His presence above every blessing. And when we do, even if we stumble, we are never left face down in the dirt.
His hand is there.
Holding us steady.
